Are you making these mistakes? This is why your hair is dull and lifeless!

Beautiful, healthy hair is the dream of every woman, yet we often do not realise that even small mistakes in our daily care can be unkind to our hair. An unsuitable routine, the wrong products or unhelpful habits can leave hair dry, damaged or breaking. If you are sometimes unsure whether you are doing everything right, read on. In this article we reveal the 5 most common mistakes we make in hair care, and share gentle ways to put them right.

What are the most common hair care mistakes?

Washing your hair too often.

Many women tend to wash their hair every day so that it looks fresh. Frequent washing, however, can disturb the natural balance of oils on the scalp, which leaves hair dry and weak. Try to wash your hair no more than 2-3 times a week and use a dry shampoo in between to freshen it up.

Using unsuitable products.

The right products are the key to healthy hair. Many shampoos and conditioners contain silicones, parabens or sulphates, which can weigh hair down and dry it out unnecessarily. Choose products with a natural base that contain wholesome ingredients such as rosemary, basil, mint, honey, jojoba oil, argan oil or aloe vera.

Hot water when washing.

Although a hot shower is wonderful for relaxing, it can leave your hair dehydrated and dry. Use lukewarm water when washing and finish with cool water to close the hair cuticles and bring out the shine.

Combing wet hair the wrong way.

After washing, hair is wet and therefore at its most vulnerable. To keep it from breaking, use a wide-toothed comb and gently work through your hair from the ends up to the roots.

Using heat too often.

Blow-drying, straightening or curling are wonderful for creating the perfect hairstyle, but frequent heat can damage the structure of your hair. Use heat protection and choose the lowest possible temperature when blow-drying or straightening to keep damage to a minimum.

Tying hair up too tightly.

Do you wear a hair tie every day that pulls your hair together in one place? Very tight hairstyles can cause not only headaches but also breakage and hair loss. It is lovely to choose looser, gentler styles from time to time that do not weigh your hair down. It is also worth thinking about the hair tie you choose. The loveliest choice is a silk one, which is gentle on the hair and leaves behind none of the marks that are so typical of elastic ties.

Wet hair wrapped in a towel.

OH NO! This is the most common mistake many of us make. A wet towel on your hair leaves the hair weighed down, the scalp warm and damp, and there is a possible transfer of bacteria if you use the same towel for your body. The end result will be an unhappy scalp full of flakes and other skin concerns.

Sleeping with wet hair.

As we mentioned above, wet hair is very fragile, which makes breakage far more likely. That is exactly why it becomes damaged more quickly during sleep, your scalp stays warm and damp, and in the morning, while you are combing it through, you will regret that decision at least ten times over. So before you go to sleep, never forget to dry your hair thoroughly with a hairdryer.
