Every one of us longs for beautiful, soft skin that feels like velvet to the touch, which is why we invest a good deal in quality creams, hydrating body butters and luxurious nourishing oils. Yet we often forget the one absolutely most important step, without which any further body care is only half a success. This key step is the body scrub, professionally also called exfoliation.
If this little cosmetic wonder is still missing from your routine, or if you use it only now and then, it is time to change that. In this article we will dive together into the world of body scrubs and share with you why a natural sugar scrub is the loveliest choice, how to apply it correctly and why it is an absolute must, especially during the summer months.
What is a body scrub and how does it work?
Our skin is a dynamic organ that constantly changes and renews itself, with the natural cycle of skin cell renewal lasting an average of 28 days. During this fascinating process, new cells are created in the deeper layers and gradually move to the surface, where they die and should naturally flake away. With age, under the influence of stress, an unbalanced lifestyle and outside factors as well, this process slows down. The result is often dead cells that gather on the surface of the skin, clog the pores and make the skin look dull, feel rough and dry to the touch and lose its natural elasticity.
It is in such a moment that a mechanical body scrub is the loveliest rescue: thanks to its tiny abrasive particles it gently, yet remarkably effectively, removes this accumulated layer of dead cells. The skin can breathe again, blood flow to it improves and it is completely ready to receive nourishment.
5 main reasons why a body scrub should be a regular part of your care
Using a body scrub is not only about surface beauty; it is at the same time an essential step towards the overall health and vitality of your skin. Here are the main benefits that regular exfoliation will bring you:
Immediate radiance and smoothness of the skin
Already after the first use of a quality sugar scrub you will feel an enormous difference. By removing the coarse, dead layer of cells you reveal new, healthy skin that is incredibly smooth to the touch and visibly radiant. Its tone becomes more even and the unwelcome dry, flaky places that tend to trouble us especially on elbows, knees and heels disappear.
Getting the most out of the active ingredients in your creams
Do you feel that you apply the loveliest body butter and yet a few hours later your skin is dry again? The culprit is the barrier of dead cells that keeps hydrating and nourishing substances from reaching deeper. A scrub removes this invisible wall, thanks to which your favourite body creams or oils absorb incomparably better and their effect is multiplied. Panakeia sugar scrubs are moreover enriched with nourishing ingredients, so after a shower you often need no further oiling at all.
Preventing ingrown hairs after shaving
Ingrown hairs and inflamed red dots are an unpleasant problem. They appear when a hair cannot break through the thick layer of dead skin and starts to grow beneath it. A regular scrub the day before shaving or waxing frees the pores and makes sure that the razor glides over a perfectly smooth surface without any irritation afterwards.
Supporting microcirculation and softening the look of cellulite
The massage itself, connected with applying the scrub, wonderfully stimulates the blood flow and awakens the lymphatic system. Well-nourished skin with good circulation is firmer, more supple and can carry away accumulated toxins more quickly. A regular scrub massage of the areas that concern us most (thighs, bottom, tummy) is among the loveliest home methods for softening the appearance of cellulite.
Home wellness and aromatherapy for the mind
Body care should be a ritual in which you slow down and relax. Thanks to the beautiful scents that the scrubs offer (whether the sweet Cukráreň or the floral Nataly), you can turn an ordinary shower into a luxurious, fragrant wellness experience that lifts your mood after a demanding day.
Why is a body scrub an absolute must in summer?
The summer months ask a lot of our skin. Extreme temperatures, more perspiration, UV radiation, chlorinated water in swimming pools, sea salt, sand and the constant application of rich sun creams (SPF). All of this creates an impermeable film on the skin and a great burden for it.

The main reasons to use a scrub in summer
- The base for a flawless, long-lasting tan: If you long for a beautiful, even bronze tan from your holiday, a scrub is step number one. If you were to sunbathe with a layer of dead cells, your tan would come out patchy and the skin would begin to peel very quickly and unattractively. Our summer favourite is the URUCUM scrub, which not only prepares the skin but, thanks to its special ingredients, also supports and prolongs the tan itself.
- Deep cleansing of the pores from SPF and perspiration: Sun creams with a protection factor are designed to hold onto the skin as if nailed there. An ordinary shower gel often cannot wash them off completely or release them from the pores, which leads to summer breakouts on the back or décolletage. A mechanical scrub cleanses the pores deeply.
- A rescue when skin is peeling: An important note: never use a scrub on freshly sunburnt, red or painful skin! But when, after a few days, the skin begins to peel naturally and the healing process is coming to an end, a gentle sugar scrub will help you remove the remaining flakes softly and even out the look of the skin.
How to use a body scrub correctly?
To get the absolute most out of exfoliation without harming your skin, it is important to keep to the right technique of application.
Step 1: Preparing the skin thoroughly
Always apply the scrub to damp or wet skin. You will do best if you treat yourself to a warm (careful, not hot!) shower or bath lasting at least 5 to 10 minutes. Warm water softens the upper layer of the skin and opens the pores, thanks to which the exfoliation that follows will be far more effective and gentler.
Step 2: The right amount and the massage technique
Take into your palm an amount of scrub roughly the size of a large walnut. Specialists recommend starting at the feet and moving upwards with circular movements, towards the heart. This direction is key for stimulating the lymphatic system properly. On places with thicker skin (knees, elbows, heels) you can press a little more, but on the more delicate areas (décolletage, neck, tummy) be very gentle. A great advantage of Panakeia sugar scrubs is that the sugar crystals gradually melt under the warmth and the massage, which protects the skin from unwanted scratching.
Step 3: Time to work and rinsing off
After massaging your whole body, do not rinse the product off immediately. Let it stay on the body for at least another 2 to 3 minutes. The natural oils, butters and active substances the scrub contains will then have time to reach the deeper layers of the skin. Afterwards, rinse everything thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Step 4: Care afterwards
After showering, never rub the skin roughly with a towel; just pat it lightly and let it dry. Since the natural scrubs from our workshop already contain nourishing ingredients, your skin will be hydrated and supple straight away. If, however, you have a distinctly dry skin type, apply your favourite body butter, milk or oil to still slightly damp skin. The moisture will then be perfectly locked in.
How often is it healthy?
The ideal frequency for using a body scrub is 1 to 2 times a week. Using it too often (every day) could disturb the natural protective barrier of the skin and make it oversensitive. Using it less often, on the other hand, will not bring the results you wish for over the long term.
The unique fragrant Panakeia scrubs
Panakeia scrubs are formulated mostly on a base of natural sugar. Since salt can sting sensitive or freshly shaved skin and dry it out needlessly, we gave preference to sugar, which is even a natural source of glycolic acid. It helps to loosen the bonds between dead cells chemically and at the same time binds moisture in the skin beautifully.
Panakeia scrubs are made honestly, by hand in Slovakia, with love and with an emphasis on the highest possible quality of ingredients. In our range you will find products in which every skin will surely find its own:
- URUCUM sugar body scrub: The absolute summer bestseller. It contains urucum powder, which is wonderful for preparing the skin before sunbathing and helps keep a beautiful bronze tone of the skin for as long as possible.
- Krása a čistota sugar body scrub: A classic that never disappoints. It gives the skin intense hydration, cleanses clogged pores and leaves behind a soft, very pleasant scent.
- The floral scrubs Láskykvet and Nataly: The Nataly and Láskykvet scrubs are known for their exclusive fragrance compositions. They will not only soften your skin beyond recognition, but leave a beautiful perfume scent on it for many hours.

- Cukráreň sugar body scrub: A much-loved scrub for all lovers of sweet, playful, gourmand scents who wish to turn their bathroom into the sweetest private spa.
Do remember that beautiful, youthful, radiant skin is not only a matter of good genetics, but above all of the right, regular care. Whichever scrub you choose, welcome it into your beauty routine as soon as you can and enjoy that indescribable feeling of perfect cleanness, softness and irresistible silkiness after every bath.
