Usage
Roasted root at 140 degrees Celsius replaces coffee - chicory. This method of using the herb has been known since 1690 in the Netherlands.
Chicory coffee is taken 2-3 times a day to stimulate appetite and for chronic gallbladder and liver diseases. In traditional medicine, the root is used for diabetes, digestion, and constipation. Externally, in the form of compresses, it is used for painful inflammations, eczema, and ulcerative conditions. Chicory decoction helps with functional constipation, common with changes in location (so-called travel constipation). Juice from the root, lightly rubbed into the scalp, promotes hair growth. Young, fresh chicory roots can be used in homeopathy, as well as in gastronomy for preparing sauces. The flower drug is used as an infusion to rinse the eyes in inflammatory conditions.
