Urucum. Are you off to the seaside, or would you simply love a little tan and a little energy from the sunshine? Every one of us wishes to be as golden as chocolate, and so we look through all the sun preparations available. We have chosen this trusted little plant for you, the one we use in making our bronzer. Would you like to know which one? URUCUM, of course.
Urucum and its effects

URUCUM is a plant traditionally used to help the skin cope with the UVA and UVB rays of the sun, and it also keeps insects at a gentle distance. So you have two in one, a lovely sun companion and a repellent. Urucum /bixa orellana/ grows in the tropics of Central and South America and is known for its colour (annatto), which is drawn from its fruits. The native peoples used urucum as a shield from the sun and also to care for sunburnt skin. It has a mildly cooling effect and keeps insects away. This exotic plant was brought to Europe in the 17th century.
Urucum and how it is used
Urucum also has anti-inflammatory effects and is used for skin troubles and conditions such as dermatitis, psoriasis and seborrhoea, and also for hyperpigmentation and vitiligo. For time in the sun it truly suits everyone, it protects from allergy and evens out the skin, where hyperpigmentation and vitiligo are concerned. This plant is a hundred times richer in beta-carotene than a carrot. Urucum is very rich in carotenoids with natural pigments. It contains bixin and norbixin together with vitamins that slow the ageing of the body. It also contains lutein, which stimulates the synthesis of melanin.
Urucum for tanning truly works

What more can we say, only give thanks to nature for giving us such a plant. Our reviews already show that URUCUM can bring a golden glow even to very pale skin. Of course, the principles of healthy time in the sun still hold. Urucum powder is drawn from the seeds of a tree native to the Amazon rainforest, which bears spiny fruit filled with red seeds. The powder was used by the native peoples to colour the body and even the hair. The skin turns a radiant orange and is protected from insect bites and from burning. These days it is even used to colour foods, for example CHEDDAR.
